The day before Jet went into rut, when young bucks go out and make families of their own, he challenged or got challenged by another young buck and got injured. One of his antlers broke at the skull base and hung down into his face. He didn't seem particularly distressed, however the skull flap moved with the antler.
Our plan was to sedate Jet, cut the antler and set the bone and nub, but Jet went into rut that night. We waited, but no Jet.
When the rut season came to an end we saw all of the other bucks return except for Uncle Buck and Jet. That was January, 2010.
It's now the beginning of May, and still no Jet. Another little family has adopted us, but Jet still has not returned, and nor has Uncle. We are hopeing that they simply have started families and wandered farther away and may someday circle back around, but I do miss my little guy. Back to Articles |
